Dave Hakstol is a well-known name in the ice hockey sport. He currently serves as the head coach of the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League. Dave was born David Hakstol on July 30, 1968, to Theresa Hakstol and Ed Hakstol in Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada. Dave Hakstol’s mother works as a substitute teacher at Warburg School. Likewise, the coach’s dad worked in the oil field, but sadly, he passed away at age 66 due to prostate cancer. Hakstol is the youngest child of his parents. He grew up on a farm in Warburg with his sister Sandra Hakstol and brother Brian Hakstol.

The head coach was born into a family full of relentless workers. The entire Hakstol family helped on the farm. The Hakstol brothers branded and fed cattle, ran machinery, shoveled grain, bailed hay, and drove the tractor. Furthermore, growing up, Dave’s favorite sports were baseball and hockey. His late father had made a small rink on the farm, where he used to skate with his siblings. As he got older, he understood hockey was his sport and left his hometown before his senior year to play in Camrose, Alberta.

After graduating high school, Hakstol had planned to attend the University of Alberta but later went to the University of North Dakota. He received a degree in finance in 1992.

The coach fell for her when she sandbagged him on a bet to see who could stay on their water skis longer, with the winner getting a beer. Dave, who used to win the ice hockey championships, failed that bet. Then, the duo dated for two years. The pair mostly did long-distance as Hakstol was often away on recruiting trips. Finally, in 2003, the couple walked down the aisle.
