Dave was born David Hakstol on July 30, 1968, to Theresa Hakstol and Ed Hakstol in Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada. Dave Hakstol’s mother works as a substitute teacher at Warburg School. Likewise, the coach’s dad worked in the oil field, but sadly, he passed away at age 66 due to prostate cancer. Hakstol is the youngest child of his parents. He grew up on a farm in Warburg with his sister Sandra Hakstol and brother Brian Hakstol.

The Hakstol brothers branded and fed cattle, ran machinery, shoveled grain, bailed hay, and drove the tractor. Furthermore, growing up, Dave’s favorite sports were baseball and hockey.
