Napheesa Collier’s grandfather, Gershon Collier, was a significant name in Sierra Leone’s history. He was a former Sierra Leonean diplomat and ambassador to the United Nations.

After a civil war started in the early 1990s in Sierra Leone, Napheesa Collier’s father moved to America to begin a new life. He moved to Jefferson City, Missouri, where he met Napheesa’s mom, Sarah. Eventually, they both got married and later had Napheesa and her siblings. The player grew up in O’Fallon, Missouri, with her brother Kai Collier and Wanza Collier.

As an NBA/WNBA skills coach, he has trained several players, including Trae Young, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and others.
