Sheldon was born on September 17, 1980, to Brian Keefe and Roberta Keefe. Sheldon Keefe’s parents are from Tignish, and they settled in Brampton, Ontario, after high school and raised a family of five. The coach is the middle child of his dad and mom. Furthermore, Keefe grew up with his elder sister Lisa Keefe and younger brother Adam Keefe.

Sheldon Keefe’s father worked at a cold storage plant loading and unloading trucks. On the other hand, the former’s mother worked in childcare. Likewise, Keefe’s younger sibling is a former Memorial Cup champion, and he spent six years playing minor hockey in North America. Although Brian never played hockey while growing up, he made sure his sons were consumed by it from a very young age.
It is not known which university Sheldon attended. But, in June 2021, Algonquin College awarded him an Honorary Degree in recognition of his community and on-ice accomplishments.
