He currently serves the Loyola Greyhounds men’s lacrosse team at Loyola University Maryland. As of 2022, he is in his 16th season serving as the team’s head coach.
Charley was raised with his five siblings. Born to an orthodontist dad, Toomey grew up to become a sports personality, a different profession than his old man. Now, let’s know the hardships the coach had to go through to reach his present state.
One Of The Four Children Of His Parents
Charles Edward Toomey IV was born in 1968 to Joyce Cooper Toomey and Dr. Charles Edward Toomey III. Charley Toomey’s dad was one of the first orthodontists in Annapolis who had established a thriving practice. During the 25 years of his practice, children and their parents often crowded his office. Likewise, Charley’s mom was a former Howard County teacher. Unfortunately, his parents have already passed away.
Talking about his childhood, the coach grew up in Elkridge until he was 3. Then, his family moved to Annapolis, Maryland. He was raised along with his siblings, Catharine Toomey Gregorie, Jennifer Toomey Driscoll, and Christopher Pope Toomey.
Charley first went to Archbishop Spalding High School and later attended Boys’ Latin School of Maryland. Several prestigious schools, including Penn, Navy, Hobart, Hampden-Sydney, and Towson, had recruited him. But, Coach Toomey went to Loyola. He graduated in 1990 with BBA in Marketing.

Charley started playing as a goalkeeper at 6. In high school, he helped the team to a conference title and even a runner-up trophy. While at college, the sportsperson assisted the team to their first NCAA final. His professional playing career started in 1992 with the Baltimore Thunder and ended in 1993 with the Boston Blazers.
Right after graduating, Toomey’s first coaching job came at his alma mater. Then, in 1993, he worked as a head coach in the Naval Academy Prep School. The following year, the Elkridge-born athlete became an assistant coach for the Navy. Two years later, he joined Severn School as their head coach. Finally, in 1999, Charley returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach.
In 2006, the Maryland native was promoted to a head coaching position and is still working. As an assistant coach of the Greyhounds, he received a $17K income. As a head coach, Charley Toomey’s salary must be huge.

Despite gaining immense fame, the head coach has kept most of his personal details away from the media. Therefore, there is not much information about his love life. The Greyhounds’ head coach, Charley Toomey’s wife, is Sara Toomey. The couple tied the knot in 1996.
Furthermore, Charley’s spouse has remained away from the limelight and does not seem to have active social media handles. Nonetheless, the duo must be enjoying their blissful marriage. Let’s hope we get to see the sight of Mrs. Toomey soon.
After getting married in the late 1990s, the pair have welcomed three daughters. Charley Toomey’s children, Emma Toomey, Sophie Toomey, and Lyla Toomey, were born in 1999, 2001, and 2003, respectively. Furthermore, in one of the articles, the coach revealed that his babygirls took up lacrosse. He even coached his middle child’s team.
