Dallas Eakins, whose full name is Dallas Franklin Eakins, is a well-known American-Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He serves the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL as their head coach.

Already Lost His Mother And Step-father

The former player was born on February 27, 1967, to his parents, Carol Ploof and Ted Yoder, in Dade City, Florida. While his mother, Carol, was from Macon, Georgia, his biological father, Ted, was a Native Amercan, who he believes was Cherokee. Unfortunately, his parents split up shortly after his birth.

The head coach grew up in a place surrounded by alligators and other venomous creatures. Dallas Eakins’ mother later married a Canadian long-distance truck driver named Jim Eakins, and he adopted his stepfather’s last name. He also has a half-sister five years younger than him.

Around the age of 7, Dallas moved to Peterborough, Ontario, with his new family. Sadly, his mom passed away due to cancer at 51. His stepdad, Jim, stopped communicating with him within a few of Carol’s death. It was after several years that he found out about Jim’s suicide. Tragically, his stepfather shot himself in September of 2008 with a .22 rifle that his mother, Carol, owned and used to shoot snakes in the backyard when living in Florida.

The 1967-born coach started playing in 1975 after moving to Canada. He began playing professionally in 1988 and began coaching in 2004. He must have bagged an enormous amount of sum throughout his career. Likewise, Dallas Eakins’ net worth must be massive.

The Washington Capitals drafted Dallas in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft as the 208th overall pick. He became the second Floridian to play in the NHL. Eakins mostly played in the AHL and IHL throughout his playing career. He played for ten different teams in 882 games in these two leagues.

After retiring as a player, the Floridian joined the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, serving the Toronto Marlies as an assistant coach and then later the Maple Leafs in 2006. Then in 2009, he was offered the position of head coach for the Marlies.

Eakins signed a three-year contract with the Ducks in 2019. The Ducks picked up his contract option for the 2022-23 season, which was exercised on April 12, 2022. His contract details are yet to be disclosed. According to The Athletic, an NHL head coach’s pay ranges from $1 million to $6 million per year on average.
