Mikaela Shiffrin Hails From A Family of Skiers

The Olympian was born on March 13, 1995, in Vail, Colorado, to skiing enthusiast parents. She began skiing when she was only two years old.

Mikaela had massive help in her career from her parents, Jeff Shiffrin and Eileen Shiffrin, who were skiers during their teenage years. Her dad, Jeff was interested in skiing as he played the sports on the weekends and holidays with his family. He also raced for his college during his undergraduate days.

The World Cup winner was homeschooled, but her parents later decided to enroll her in Burke Mountain Academy.

Likewise, Mikaela Shiffrin’s mother, Eileen, raced in high school but did not make a career out of it. Nonetheless, she became her daughter’s skiing coach later on. Furthermore, the skier and her older brother Taylor Shiffrin attended schools at Burke before relocating to Colorado.

Shiffrin’s father, Jeff, was always present with her while she was winning medals back-to-back. During the Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, he played the role of his daughter’s photographer. Unfortunately, Mikaela’s dad, Jeff, passed away following a head injury in an accident at their family’s home in Colorado on February 2, 2020.

The athlete considered quitting skiing after losing her father. Her mom, Eileen, shared that she was devastated and couldn’t stop crying. But, Mikaela’s brother, Taylor, convinced her to get back to sports because that’s what their late dad would have wanted her to do.
