Nina O’Brien is a familiar American World Cup alpine ski racer who has competed in top major competitions. She had a terrific season last year after recording the best season of her career in two major tournaments.

The sportswoman also was the US Alpine Team Member for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Sadly, her first Olympic appearance was terribly halted by a scary crash that fractured her legs during the giant slalom event.

Now, let’s learn more about the talented young skier’s family, career, earnings, and love life in this article.

Has Supportive Parents

The skier was born on November 29, 1997, to American parents, Chris O’Brien and Dana O’Brien. She was raised in San Francisco, California, by ski enthusiast parents who used to take her and her siblings to Palisades Tahoe, a ski resort in California, on the weekends.

Nina O’Brien’s father and mother instilled a love for skiing in her from earlier. She also mentions skiing was more about having fun in the mountain regions than racing and competing with her siblings.

She has two brothers, Christopher O’Brien and Preston O’Brien, and a sister Audrey O’Brien. The skier seems to have a very close bond with her sister Audrey as they can be seen together in several of Nina’s posts on Instagram.

The sportsperson attended Burke Mountain Academy (BMA) in Vermont when she was studying in the eighth grade and was thirteen years old. She trained in the same club as Paula Moltzan and AJ Hurt, among others. Speaking of Nina’s college education, she majored in Economics at Dartmouth College.

Likewise, the San Francisco-based athlete impressed many people, including her loving parents, when she won the national title at the US Alpine Championships in 2015. At the young age of 17, she was able to bag the most coveted tournament in the giant slalom discipline leaving the National Training Group and its coaches in awe.

Nina O’Brien Net Worth And Career

The Californian skier pursued her interest in skiing from a young age and has played the sports at the collegiate and international levels for a while now. So, Nina O’Brien’s net worth primarily includes her earnings as a skier.

The skier had her career-best season in 2020-21 when she finished ninth in slalom and achieved a top-ten finish in the giant slalom division at the World Championships. Likewise, she also finished in fifteenth place in the giant slalom on the World Cup start list.

Nina has amassed a considerable sum from seven national titles wins, including super-G, slalom, alpine combined, parallel slalom in 2019, slalom and super-G victories in 2018, and giant slalom in 2015.

Let’s look at some of her World Cup stats:

Date Place Tournament Discipline Position FIS Points
09-01-2022 Kranjska Gora World Cup Slalom 25 28.84
11-01-2022 Schladming World Cup Slalom 19 20.80

The young prodigy must have grabbed a reasonable sum of prize money from those tournaments with additional wins in the 2019 NorAm overall title, finishing first in slalom, giant slalom, and super-G.

A professional skier earns about $30K per year. So, we can assume O’Brien’s salary must be around that range. Also, she has been on the US Olympic Alpine Team for seven years which must have increased her fortune as well.

Nina can also be seen promoting companies like NexGen Hyperbaric and Nuunhydration on her Instagram profile. Thus, Nina O’Brien’s net worth must be a notable amount.

Suffered A Deadly Crash

It was a terrible experience for the athlete as she crashed during the second run of the women’s slalom discipline at the 2022 Winter Olympics on February 7.

The skier suffered a compound fracture on her left tibia and fibula and an open fracture through her leg. She underwent surgery in Beijing, China, before coming to America, where her family welcomed her.

The Olympian is very active on her Instagram and often posts pictures of her rehabilitation phase. Fellow skier Mikaela Shiffrin took to Instagram to say how gruesome the injury was and sent her best wishes to Nina.

Is Nina Single?

The Palisades Tahoe Club’s athlete seems to be a very private person since she has not revealed anything about her romantic life. There is no mention of her partner in any of Nina’s interviews.

People only got to know about Nina O’Brien’s boyfriend, Drew, when he welcomed her at the airport after returning from Beijing. He must have been devastated watching his girlfriend crash at the Olympics.

Besides that, the skier’s partner hasn’t made many media appearances. Her social media content is also mainly about skiing tournaments and training routines. Nevertheless, Nina’s boyfriend, Drew, must be very supportive of her career.

Aside from skiing, the Olympian is interested in hiking, biking, and watching documentaries. Her lover might also accompany her in these outdoor activities. Hopefully, she will talk more about her partner in the days ahead.

O’Brien has won seven national titles and competed in the Olympics. But, her career has also seen her facing many injuries. Let’s hope Nina recovers well and can get back to her very best form soon.
